Even though it has only been a couple of days since the last post, we have been up to quite a bit! First, this past Thursday Anna and the baby celebrated the beginning of week 18. She is still glowing more now than ever before and is really enjoying herself.
Summer travels have begun! On Tuesday, we drove down to Atlanta to stay with Meghan and had dinner with her as well as Kelly and Jimmy. The next morning, we woke up and drove up to the Atlanta airport (what fun) and got ready to fly to Houston. Our flight went off wihout a hitch, and we actually ended up landing early. When was the last time that happened? We were picked up by Uncle Bill, or G-pa as he is known here. We came straight to Chip and Amy's house, where we were greeted by the whole gang: Will, Drew, Claire, Wes, and Lela, as Elisa likes to call herself. After relaxing just for a bit, Uncle Jeff was brought out to the field for some baseball! We had a great time, all the kids are great athletes, and we even saw a hawk that was flying around near the house. For dinner, we met up with Alex and Candice as well as their two daughters, Lauren and Allison. We all had a great time at Lupy Tortillas, a great Mexican restaurant that has a large sandbox for children to play in. We all had a great time.
Thursday, June 26: NASA! We spend most of the day at NASA, learning about all sorts of things about the space program, past and present. Couple of things that I learned: NASA is currently phasing out the space shuttle and will replace them with two new kinds of rockets; we will be going back to the moon and establishing an outpost there; and by 2030 NASA hopes to land a man on Mars. Crazy. After we spent a while at NASA, we met up with Alex's crew to help celebrate Allison's 6th birthday! There were roughly a billion children in and out of the pool, but everyone had lots of fun and Allison had a great day.
Friday, June 27: Along with the whole Chip crew, we went off to Galviston to a great plcace called Moody Gardens. They have lots of educational things for the whole family. We had enough time to go to two: we saw a great exhibit on the Titanic that included artifacts from the wreckage site as well as other details about the major events leading up to and after the ship's crash. After a quick bite for lunch, we went to see a 3-D iMax movie on sharks. It was a great time!
Now for the best part: game 1! First matchup: Matsuzaka vs. Hernandez. We (me, Anna, Chip, G-pa, Will, Drew, Wes) got to the ballpark nice and early to see some batting practice and tried to get some autographs. The only Sox player that did so was David Aardsma, and we got his! In the end, it was a well played game for both sides. The play of the game was J. D. Drew's three-run homer in the third inning. As it turned out, that was all the Sox needed, winning 6-1. A recap:
Three best plays of the game:
3. Mike Lowell's 2-RBI single in the 9th
2. Jonathan Paplebon striking out Lance Berkman in the bottom of the 8th with the game much closer than the final score indicated (4-1 at the time)
1. Easy: J. D. Drew's three run home run
Bonus best: getting a call from Nanny in the 4th inning!
Much more to come, including lots of pictures!
